Chrani - Safla Railway Bridge - Chrani

We start from the old station of Chrani (altitude ~700m) and move through the village, descending towards the Mavrozoumena stream. After crossing the river, there is a short but more demanding uphill climb until we meet the tracks.

And then… the journey through time begins.

For several kilometers we move on the abandoned railway line, passing:

✔ Old stone bridges

✔ Iron railway bridges

✔ 4 impressive tunnels (with the second one taking your breath away)

Ruined stations and water towers

The passage from the Safla bridge over the Charadros – a tributary of the Pamisos – is one of the moments that is etched in the memory. View of the Messinian plain, sound of water, absolute freedom.

Then, the imposing tunnel with the vegetation at the entrance swallows us for a few minutes. With a headlamp, stalactites, absolute darkness… and then light again.

We carefully cross the metal bridge of Kokkinolakas – a living monument of industrial heritage and continue to Isari station, where silence tells stories of other times.
