Tymfi is not just a mountain.
It is a whole world of stone, water and wild alpine nature, where the peaks of Pindos are reflected in dragon lakes and rivers carve canyons through time.
The climb to Dragon Lake and the crossing of Voidomatis, at this time of year is… AN EXPERIENCE!
Steep rocky landscapes, alpine meadows above the clouds, waters that spring up frozen from the springs of Tymfi and paths that pass through the wildest and most imposing side of Epirus.
And we go to experience it at its best!
July in Tymfi means a mountain full of life.
The snow is still melting on the peaks, Drakolimni is filled with clear, icy water, the mountain meadows are turning green and the Voidomatis flows crystal clear through the Vikos Gorge.
Two days full of hiking, exploration and true contact with nature.
From the stone paths of Tymfi to the icy waters of Voidomatis, this experience combines the mountain and the river in the best way.
Because this is the way it should be!
THE EXPERIENCE
Tymfi is one of the most impressive mountain ranges in Greece and part of the Northern Pindos National Park.
Its steep peaks, ravines, drakolimni and stone paths create a unique alpine landscape that is difficult to find elsewhere in the country.
At its heart lies the legendary Drakolimni of Tymfi, at an altitude of 2,050 meters.
An alpine lake that seems almost unreal, surrounded by bare peaks and clouds moving low over Pindos.
And then comes the Voidomatis.
One of the cleanest rivers in Europe, with icy and transparent waters that cross the gorge under the shadow of Tymfi.
Somewhere there, among alpine passes, stone cobblestones and turquoise waters, we will move too.

OVERVIEW
Day 1
Friday 03 JulyDeparture for Zagorochoria
We leave the city behind and set off for the heart of Epirus.
As we climb towards Pindos, the landscape slowly changes. The mountains approach, the air cools and the feeling of the excursion begins before we even arrive.

Arrival at approximately 22:30 in Kleidonia and check-in at our guesthouse, built right at the entrance to the Vikos Gorge.

Day 2
Saturday 04 JulyClimbing to Drakolimni in Tymfi 🏔️
Today we are entering alpine mode for good.
We wake up early in the morning, enjoy our breakfast and prepare the equipment for one of the most iconic hikes in Greece.
🚌 Morning departure with the Combo Vans for Mikro Papigo.
📍 The route
Mikro Papigo – Astraka Refuge – Drakolimni
We start from the beautiful Mikro Papigo, at 930 meters altitude, and enter one of the most historic trails of Pindos.
The trail gradually ascends through shady passes and rocky alpine terrain, while as we climb the view towards Zagorochoria and the steep slopes of Astraka becomes increasingly imposing.
Along the way we encounter traditional springs, rest areas and open alpine meadows that seem to touch the sky.
The Astraka Refuge appears on the characteristic saddle of Tymfi, where the landscape now becomes purely mountainous and wild.
From there we continue to the legendary Dragon Lake of Tymfi.
The route passes through alpine meadows and rocky passes with continuous views of the peaks of Tymfi. And suddenly, at 2,050 meters, the lake appears before us.
An alpine lake that seems to have come from another world.
Steep peaks and ravines rise around it, while the Aoos valley can be seen below. According to legend, the dragon of Tymfi lived here and threw stones at the dragon of Smolikas.
Today the lake is home to the rare alpine newt and is one of the most unique mountain landscapes in Greece.

In the evening we return to our guesthouse tired but full of images from the more alpine side of Pindos.
Day 3
Sunday 05 JulyVoidomatis. River in the shadow of Tymfi 🌊
The morning starts more relaxed.
Today we leave the alpine landscapes behind and descend next to the icy waters of Voidomatis, one of the cleanest rivers in Europe.
Participants can choose between two different experiences:
Option 1 — Hiking on Voidomatis
A beautiful river hiking route through dense vegetation and next to the blue-green waters of the river.
The route starts from the Kleidonia bridge and moves parallel to the river to the Aristi bridge, passing through shady paths, small banks and natural resting points.
A calm and enjoyable end to the three-day trip, in the most peaceful side of Zagori.
Dives in the frozen Voidomatis are mandatory... 😀

Option 2 — Rafting in Voidomatis 🚣
For those who want to experience Voidomatis… through the water.
An easy but unique rafting experience in the frozen and transparent waters of the river, under the shadow of Tymfi and the Vikos Gorge.
The activity is ideal even for beginners and is carried out with experienced guides and full safety equipment.
🕒 Duration: approximately 3 hours (including preparation)
📍 Start: Aristis Bridge
🏁 Finish: Kleidonias Bridge
All necessary equipment is provided: neoprene suits, helmets, life jackets, etc.
🏁 Return to the starting point and departure for Athens full of images from one of the wildest and most impressive experiences of Pindos!

The Accomodation
Our accommodation takes place in a guesthouse in Kleidonia, Ioannina. It is an ideal haven of tranquility, built right at the entrance of the famous Vikos Gorge.
It is located in a privileged, strategic location between the traditional Zagorochoria villages and the imposing Konitsa, right next to the historic stone bridge of Kleidonia and the banks of the Voidomatis River.
